Website Design

Your website often creates the first impression of your brand. Make it count!

A well-designed website can set your business apart from the competition and drive enquiries, phone calls, and sales. It’s too important to leave to chance.

JD Stride has been designing and building websites since 1999 — over 25 years and more than 2,500 projects for organisations across Australia and beyond. We bring the same technical discipline to your website that we bring to our Managed IT and Cybersecurity clients: quality infrastructure, proven processes, and a long-term partnership approach.

Our team stays across the latest design trends, marketing techniques, and cloud innovations so you don’t have to. Whether you need a new site, a redesign, or someone to take over a site that’s been neglected, we can help

Not just designers. We're on-going "digital consultants" for our clients.

Our team stays across the latest design trends, marketing techniques, and cloud innovations so you don’t have to. Whether you need a new site, a redesign, or someone to take over a site that’s been neglected, we can help.

Built for the long term

We specialise in WordPress, the content management system that powers over 40% of the internet. But not all WordPress sites are created equal. Here’s what makes a JD Stride site different.

Proprietary framework

We've built our own WordPress design framework on GeneratePress — one of the fastest, most lightweight foundations available. Your site isn't dependent on a third-party theme developer's roadmap. We control the code, the updates, and the quality

60+ design patterns

Our framework includes over 60 reusable patterns and 65+ style settings, so new sites are built faster without sacrificing originality. Every site gets a custom style sheet that gives your brand a distinctive look - no cookie-cutter templates.

Minimal plugins

We use as few plugins as possible. Every plugin adds overhead, security vulnerabilities, and maintenance complexity. When we do use plugins, we choose well-known developers with proven track records.

Lifetime licences

Over the years, we've secured lifetime and unlimited-site licences for the premium plugins and tools we use across our framework. We pass those savings directly to you — high-quality functionality without the full retail cost on every project.

Choose your package

We offer two website design packages, each built on WordPress with a consultative, strategy-led approach. Both include a dedicated discovery session, custom design, and ongoing support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with JD Stride

Getting started

It depends on what you need. We offer three approaches:

SmartWebPro — a professional 4–5 page website built in 5 business days for a fixed $2,640 inc GST. Ideal for small businesses that need a quality website quickly without the extended custom process. Choose from six design styles and we handle the rest.

Dynamic Business — a custom WordPress website with strategy session, up to 10 pages, blog, advanced forms, and comprehensive SEO setup. From $5,500 + GST. Ideal for growing businesses that need a flexible, content-rich site.

Online Storefront — a full WooCommerce ecommerce site with shopping cart, payment gateways, product management, and ecommerce-specific SEO. From $7,000 + GST. Ideal for businesses selling products online.

We also build Shopify stores for businesses that prefer a hosted ecommerce platform, and lightweight Astro sites for businesses that need a fast, simple web presence. Every project starts with a conversation — we’ll recommend the right approach for your situation and budget.

For SmartWebPro, your site is live in 5 business days — provided you send us your content on time. For custom WordPress projects (Dynamic Business and Online Storefront), typical timelines are 4–8 weeks depending on complexity, number of pages, and how quickly content is provided. The most common delay is waiting for client content — text, images, and product data. The faster you provide content, the faster your site launches.

At minimum, your logo, brand colours, text for each page, and any images you want to use. For ecommerce sites, you’ll also need product descriptions, pricing, and product photos. If you don’t have professional images, we can source premium stock photography (quoted separately). If you need help with copywriting, we offer that as an add-on too.

For SmartWebPro, the content requirements are simpler — we provide a structured brief that tells you exactly what we need for each page.

Every project follows the same core steps: an initial consultation where we understand your business, goals, and audience; a strategy and planning phase where we define the site structure and key messaging; design where we create the visual look and feel; development where we build the site in WordPress (or your chosen platform); your review and feedback; revisions; launch; and post-launch training so you can manage your own content.

For SmartWebPro, this is compressed into 5 days. For custom projects, it’s spread across 4–8 weeks with dedicated time for strategy and iteration.

Yes. For SmartWebPro, it’s $770 upfront with the balance of $1,870 due on design approval. For custom projects, we typically work on a 50/25/25 split — 50% to commence, 25% at design approval, and 25% at launch. Exact terms are outlined in your proposal.

Platforms and technology

WordPress powers over 40% of the internet. It’s flexible, scalable, well-supported, and gives you full ownership of your content. Unlike proprietary website builders, you’re never locked into a single provider — your WordPress site can be moved, modified, or extended by any developer.

We’ve built our own proprietary framework on GeneratePress, one of the fastest and most lightweight WordPress foundations available. This means your site isn’t dependent on a third-party theme developer’s roadmap. We control the code, the updates, and the quality.

Over many years we’ve seen the same problem repeatedly: clients arrive with sites built on third-party themes that have stopped receiving updates. When a theme developer abandons their product — or simply falls behind on WordPress core changes — plugins can’t be updated, security is compromised, and the client faces an expensive rebuild.

We decided to solve this permanently. Our proprietary framework is built on GeneratePress, one of the fastest and most lightweight WordPress foundations available, with our own custom child theme on top. We’ve developed over 60 reusable design patterns and a style sheet with 65+ settings that give us wide flexibility across different industries and design styles.

The result: your site isn’t dependent on any third-party theme developer’s roadmap. We control the code, the updates, and the compatibility. When WordPress or PHP releases a new version, we update our framework — you’re never waiting on someone else to catch up. And because we use the same proven framework across all our sites, new builds are faster and maintenance is more efficient.

GeneratePress is one of the most respected WordPress themes in the world — lightweight, fast, and built with clean code. It scores consistently at the top of performance benchmarks and is actively maintained by a dedicated development team.

We use GeneratePress as the foundation layer of our framework, with our own custom child theme built on top. This gives us the best of both worlds: a rock-solid, performance-optimised base that receives regular updates, combined with our proprietary design patterns and style system that make each site unique to its brand. The child theme architecture means GeneratePress can be updated without affecting your site’s custom design — your customisations are always kept separate and safe

It depends on what “custom” means. If a developer proposes building a theme framework entirely from scratch — header.php, footer.php, and all the structural files — think twice. It takes extra time for anyone else to understand the code, and when PHP or WordPress is updated, fixing compatibility issues falls entirely on that developer. If they move on, you’re stuck.

Our approach is different. We build on GeneratePress — a proven, actively maintained foundation — and layer our own proprietary child theme, patterns, and style system on top. You get a site that looks and feels completely custom to your brand, but it’s built on a framework we control and maintain across all our client sites. That means better long-term stability, faster updates, and no single point of failure.

Yes. Shopify is an excellent choice for businesses that want a hosted ecommerce platform with built-in payment processing, inventory management, and a large app ecosystem. We design and build custom Shopify stores, configure your products and collections, integrate payment gateways, and set up shipping rules.

Shopify is particularly well-suited for businesses with straightforward product catalogues, businesses that want to start selling quickly, and businesses that prefer a monthly subscription model rather than owning their own infrastructure. We’ll help you decide whether WordPress/WooCommerce or Shopify is the better fit for your specific needs

WooCommerce runs on WordPress, which means you own the code and the hosting — there’s no monthly platform fee beyond hosting. It’s more flexible and customisable, especially for complex product configurations, custom pricing rules, and integrations with other systems. It’s ideal for businesses with complex requirements or those who want full control.

Shopify is a hosted platform — you pay a monthly subscription and Shopify handles the infrastructure. It’s simpler to manage, has a lower learning curve, and comes with built-in features like payment processing and POS integration. It’s ideal for businesses that want to get up and running quickly with minimal technical overhead.

We have deep experience with both and will recommend the right platform based on your products, budget, and growth plans.

For businesses that need a fast, lightweight website without the overhead of WordPress — typically 3–5 page brochure sites — we build on Astro, a modern framework that produces incredibly fast static sites. These are hosted on Cloudflare Pages with near-zero hosting costs, global CDN, and automatic SSL. They’re ideal for trades, professional services, and businesses that need a polished online presence without a content management system.

If you need it, we can build it. We have a number of clients with custom applications, some quite large, built from scratch exclusively in-house. However, most custom work consists of modifications to existing code, e.g. plugins, for websites and ecommerce rather than full custom application development. We regularly integrate websites with external systems – CRMs (Pipedrive, HubSpot), payment platforms, booking systems, inventory management, ERPs, and any service with an API. If your project requires custom functionality, don’t hesitate to contact us. We would be happy to have a chat and help you define your options.

Design and customisation

No. Every site we build is custom-designed for your brand. We don’t use pre-made industry templates from theme marketplaces. Our proprietary framework includes over 60 reusable design patterns and 65+ style settings — these are building blocks, not templates. Each site gets a unique style sheet with your colours, fonts, imagery, and layout. The result looks custom because it is custom — it’s just built on a proven foundation rather than starting from scratch.

Yes. If you’ve seen sites you like — in your industry or any other — share them with us. We use them as design direction and inspiration. We can recreate virtually any layout, interaction, or visual effect within our framework. You don’t need an industry-specific theme — any design idea can be adapted to your brand.

Almost certainly. Over 25+ years and 2,500+ projects, we’ve worked across virtually every industry — trades, professional services, retail, hospitality, health, education, manufacturing, finance, real estate, not-for-profit, and more. But here’s the honest truth: the technical skills used in creating a website are applicable to any industry. We bring widely applicable design and marketing skills to every project and work with you — the expert in your business — to create something that fits.

Yes, every site we build is fully responsive — meaning it automatically adapts to look and work well on desktops, tablets, and mobile phones. We test on real devices, not just browser simulators. With over 60% of web traffic now coming from mobile devices, this isn’t optional — it’s fundamental to how we build.

Yes. WordPress sites come with a user-friendly backend where you can edit text, swap images, add blog posts, and manage pages without any technical knowledge. We provide a training session at launch — 1 hour for Dynamic Business sites, 2 hours for Online Storefront — to make sure you’re comfortable. And if you’d prefer us to handle content updates, that’s exactly what our care plans are for.

Ecommerce

Yes — it’s one of our core services. We’ve built ecommerce sites ranging from a single product (like selling a book) to stores with hundreds of products, complex pricing tiers, multiple shipping rules, and distributor logins with membership-based discounts.

We find that no two online stores are the same. Some common customisations we handle regularly include products with specification sheets or videos, temporary sale flags on selected products, POA (Price on Application) items with enquiry forms instead of cart buttons, products with special shipping requirements like oversized items needing specific couriers, and multiple payment gateway options.

Whatever your ecommerce requirements, we can build a fit-for-purpose solution on WooCommerce or Shopify.

For WooCommerce, we integrate with all major Australian payment gateways including Stripe, PayPal, Afterpay, Zip Pay, and Square. Our Online Storefront package includes setup of two payment gateways. For Shopify, payment processing is built into the platform with Shopify Payments, plus support for dozens of third-party gateways.

Yes. We set up shipping zones, rates, and rules based on your requirements — flat rate, weight-based, location-based, free shipping thresholds, local pickup, or integration with courier calculators like Australia Post, Sendle, or StarTrack. For complex shipping (multiple warehouses, oversized items, mixed delivery methods), we’ll configure the rules to match your actual logistics

SEO and digital marketing

Yes. Every site we build includes comprehensive on-page SEO setup: optimised page titles and meta descriptions, clean URL structure, heading hierarchy, image alt text, XML sitemap generation and submission to Google Search Console, Google Analytics integration, and structured data markup (schema). This gives your site the best possible foundation for ranking in search results.

For ongoing SEO — keyword strategy, content creation, link building, and performance tracking — we offer dedicated SEO services as a separate engagement.

Yes. We’re a Google Partner and manage Google Ads campaigns for businesses across Australia. We handle keyword research, ad copywriting, campaign structure, bid management, and ongoing optimisation. We provide transparent monthly reporting so you can see exactly what your ad spend is delivering. We also offer independent Google Ads audits if you have an existing campaign that isn’t performing and want an honest second opinion.

Yes. We plan and manage paid social campaigns on Facebook and Instagram, including audience targeting, ad creative, A/B testing, and performance reporting. We can run these alongside Google Ads as part of an integrated digital marketing strategy, or as standalone campaigns.

Yes. We can set up and manage email marketing campaigns, including template design, list management, automation sequences, and performance tracking. We work with major platforms including Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, and integrations with CRM systems like Pipedrive and HubSpot.

Yes. We’re experienced with Pipedrive implementation and consulting, and can integrate your website forms with HubSpot, Pipedrive, or other CRM systems so that enquiries flow directly into your sales pipeline without manual data entry.

Hosting, security, and ongoing support

Every new website will be placed on one of our Website Care Plans, which covers managed hosting, security monitoring, weekly updates, daily backups, and regular reporting. This ensures your site stays secure, fast, and performing well from day one. Care plans start from $110/month inc GST for a site with no database and $165/month for WordPress. If, after 12 months, you would prefer to relocate the site to another provider, you may. We will provide the files so a new developer can set them up wherever you wish.

Hosting is included in our Website Care Plans. If you’re on a care plan, you don’t need a separate hosting account — we handle everything.

Security is core to how we operate — we’re a CrowdStrike partner and Google Cloud Partner. Every care plan includes weekly WordPress core and plugin updates (tested before deployment), a Web Application Firewall, daily backups stored securely offsite, 24/7 uptime monitoring, malware scanning, and strong login protections including two-factor authentication. We apply critical security patches within 48 hours of release.

Every plugin adds overhead — slower page loads, more potential security vulnerabilities, and more maintenance complexity. We deliberately minimise plugin usage and choose well-known developers with proven track records and active maintenance. Over the years, we’ve secured lifetime and unlimited-site licences for the premium plugins we do use, which means you get high-quality functionality without the full retail cost on every project.

When we take over maintenance of sites built elsewhere, common issues include themes that are no longer supported or updated, excessive plugins (sometimes approaching 50, many of poor quality or not even activated), unoptimised images causing slow load times, broken forms, no child theme (meaning custom code lives in the parent theme and gets overwritten on update), and too many admin user accounts creating security exposure. By building and maintaining your site from the start, you avoid all of these problem

SmartWebPro — the 5-day website

SmartWebPro is our streamlined website product — a professional 4–5 page website designed and built by our team in 5 business days for a fixed price of $2,640 inc GST. It’s built on the same technology and expertise as our custom projects, but with a focused scope and faster process.

A custom project (Dynamic Business or Online Storefront) includes an extended discovery phase, bespoke design from scratch, more pages, more revision rounds, and the ability to include complex functionality. SmartWebPro starts from one of six pre-defined design styles, is limited to 4–5 pages, includes fewer revisions, and follows a compressed 5-day timeline. The quality is the same — the scope and process are different.

Think of it as the difference between a tailored suit and a high-quality off-the-rack suit that gets altered to fit. Both look professional. One is made entirely from scratch; the other starts from a proven pattern.

Trades, professional services, health practitioners, coaches, solo operators, and any small business that needs a professional website without the cost and timeline of a full custom project. It’s particularly good for businesses that have been putting off getting a website because they thought it would take too long or cost too much.

About 30 minutes across the whole week. You choose a design style, send us your logo and content, and we handle everything else. We provide a structured brief that tells you exactly what we need — no guessing.

Yes. If your business grows and you need more pages, complex functionality, or a complete redesign, we can upgrade your SmartWebPro site into a full Dynamic Business or Online Storefront project. Because it’s already built on our framework, the transition is straightforward.

Ownership, costs, and practicalities

You do. You own your website, your content, your design, and your data. We build it for you, and if you’re on a care plan we host and maintain it for you — but it belongs to you. If you ever want to leave, we provide a complete backup of all files and databases and help with the transition.

Yes. We manage many WordPress and WooCommerce sites originally built by other agencies or freelancers. We conduct an initial health check, identify and address any pre-existing issues, and then bring the site under our care. If significant remediation is needed (fixing security issues, replacing an unsupported theme, cleaning up excessive plugins), we’ll quote that work separately so you know exactly what’s involved before committing.

No. While our team is based in Melbourne, we work with clients across Australia and beyond. The entire process — consultation, design reviews, feedback, launch — works seamlessly via video call, email, and screen sharing. Many of our clients have never visited our office.

Yes. Multisite installations are uncommon but we have experience with them — our most recent included over 50 sub-sites. A Multisite setup allows multiple websites to be managed from a single WordPress installation, sharing themes and plugins while each site maintains its own content and identity. This can be cost-effective for franchise networks, multi-location businesses, or organisations managing many related sites.

We don’t include copywriting in our standard website packages (clients provide their own content), but we offer professional copywriting as an add-on service. We can write page content, blog posts, product descriptions, and SEO-focused copy. If you need it, ask us for a quote alongside your website project.

Yes. We offer SEO, Google Ads management, Facebook and Instagram advertising, email marketing, and Google Analytics setup and consulting. Many of our website clients continue working with us on ongoing digital marketing — because we built the site, we understand your business and can implement changes immediately without the back-and-forth that comes from using separate web and marketing providers.

About JD Stride

Since 1999 — over 25 years. We’ve delivered more than 2,500 projects for organisations across Australia and beyond. We’re not a startup finding our feet. We’ve been through every technology cycle, every platform evolution, and every Google algorithm change. That experience means fewer surprises and better decisions for your project.

Three things. First, we’re a technology company, not just a design agency. As a CrowdStrike partner, Google Cloud Partner, and JumpCloud partner, we bring genuine cybersecurity and infrastructure expertise to website development. Your site is built on secure foundations, not just made to look pretty.

Second, our proprietary framework means your site is built on code we control and maintain — not a third-party theme that might be abandoned next year.

Third, we offer the full spectrum of digital services under one roof: web design, ecommerce, SEO, paid advertising, email marketing, managed IT, and cybersecurity. One team, one relationship, one phone number. When your website needs a technical change to improve your Google Ads performance, we don’t need to coordinate with a separate provider — we just do it.

No. We offer three integrated service areas: web development and ecommerce (websites, online stores, care plans), digital marketing (SEO, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, email marketing, analytics), and managed IT and cybersecurity (endpoint protection, email security, Google Workspace management, cybersecurity assessments). Many of our clients use two or three of these services together, which is where the real value lies — because everything is managed by one team that sees the full picture.
